The Most (and Least) Painful Body Piercings

BY SAGETATTOOGALLERY | UNCATEGORIZED

Before you go and get a piercing, there is one thing you must be wondering before you get to your appointment: How much will this hurt? This is a common question associated with getting a body piercing. You can get pierced almost anywhere on your body which could include nipple jewelry, conch piercings, guiche piercings, and more. Naturally, you can expect that some locations will hurt more than others. This will depend on things like the thickness of the skin, how many nerve endings are there, and your personal threshold for pain.

If you’re thinking about getting a new piercing, but are basing it on the level of discomfort you might feel, the good news is that most piercings are over quickly and efficiently. However, if you’re still on the fence about any specific body piercings, then here are some of the most common piercings that are the most painful.

Cartilage Piercing

The cartilage of your ear is located near the top of the ear and tends to be denser. This means a cartilage piercing will hurt more than other types of ear piercings. Since it is so thick, this causes the needle to have more drag on it when it gets pulled through, causing more irritation and pain in the area. But, it is still a pretty tolerable experience. Find a piercing studio that is experienced in multiple forms of piercings, you might find someone who has a sensitive approach to piercing.

Nipple Piercing

Many people say that their nipple is one of the most painful piercings they have ever gotten. This is because the nipple is a very sensitive area, with plenty of nerve endings. If you are getting both of them done at the same time, you can expect the second one to hurt more. This is because your body is expecting the pain and is aware of it from the previous piercing.

Genital Piercing

This one might be obvious, but your genitals are an incredibly sensitive area. It is just the nature of things. In any case, this type of piercing will hurt, but only for a second. The best thing to do is to do your research well in advance and ask your potential piercer if they have experience doing genital piercings, and the type of genital piercing that you are looking for.

Now that we’ve covered a few of the most painful piercings out there, here are some of the least painful piercings:

Earlobe Piercing

Your earlobe is the fleshy part of your ear, so getting a piercing in the area is just like a knife going through butter. The pain level for an earlobe piercing is pretty low, so much so that most of us tend to get our ears pierced when we are little children.

Navel Piercing

Some people think that getting their belly button pierced is very painful, but that’s not the case. Even though the skin around your navel is thick, it’s not as painful as you might think. In most cases, people say that getting their belly button pierced feels like a lot of pressure in the area, rather than sharp pain.

Eyebrow Piercing

Eyebrow piercings can be on the boundary of being painful or not painful. Eyebrows do have a lot of nerve endings in the area, so the location of the eyebrow piercing will make a big difference. For example, the supraorbital nerve will make piercings near the middle of your eyebrows a lot more painful compared to those located at the ends.

Whatever type of piercing you have your heart set on, make sure that you do enough research on it before you commit.
